NEW YORK, February 27 -- As the 116th Commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day draws closer, the Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDCI) has weathered the prolonged polar vortex that has hit the nation, and could not be stopped by it as it prepares for the much-awaited multi-events Philippine Independence Celebration, highlighted by the biggest Philippine Independence Day parade outside of the Philippines - held every first Sunday of June along Madison Avenue, this year on June 1st.

On March 15th, Saturday, the much-awaited Grand Marshals Gala (and dinner dance), the 1st pre-celebratory event that ushers in the Independence Celebration will be honoring Long-Island’s pride, Dr. Emilio “Boy” Quines and Dr. Felicisima “Fely” David-Quines as Parade Grand Marshals of this year’s festive parade, the biggest to date, outside of the Philippines. The Gala will be held at the Astoria World Manor, 25-22 Astoria Boulevard, Astoria, New York 11102-2940, from  7:00pm - 12:00am.

A very special presentation for the well-loved and admired couple will be presented by the Grand Marshals Circle of Long Island led by former PIDC Overall Chair Ms. Nelia Ferrette, as well as by the special circle of classmates and friends of the Grand Marshals.

For information and/or invitations for Grand Marshals’ Gala chair and co-chairs: Dr. Prospero Lim (347) 248-5106, Ollie David (732) 221-7392), Angie Molina 718-687-0976 or PIDCI President Fe Martinez (973) 222-0085, or any member of the PIDCI Board of Directors.

This 2014 is an exciting milestone for PIDCI as it celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence Celebration in NY since its founding in 1990, formerly known as the Philippine Independence Day Committee.  Led by the industrious and energetic 3-time President Fe Martinez, along with the hard-working and dedicated Board Members and Committee Volunteers, the group is elated to present to the public, and give the highest honor that’s most fitting to Grand Marshals, to no other than the Quines couple - one of the most illustrious yet philanthropic, humble and altruistic couples the greater Tri-State Fil-Am communities have ever known.

Having just recently arrived from a most hectic whirlwind schedule, 3-week medical mission all over the Philippines, the couple summarizes their most gratifying, eye-opening mission of all times, after 20 years of serving those in need. As this year’s Parade Grand Marshals, the Quines’ focus is for all Filipinos, and Filipino-Americans to join the parade and show the world that we Filipinos have a heart of gratitude and appreciation for all the countless Filipino volunteers in the Philippines and all the global volunteers from around the world who offered their time, efforts and funded the relief efforts and continued rebuilding of the Philippine provinces devastated by recent Typhoon Haiyan, the earthquake and even the Zamboanga crisis.

“Team UERMMF, UPMASA USA, UP PGH, Ugnayan joined forces to cover calamity stricken remote Philippine islands 2014. Complemented by a loaded C-130 cargo plane airlifted surgica , OR, dental surgical medical supplies, various donated medical equipment came extremely handy for various nationwide specialists recruited by Drs Dolorico, Lats. Bobilas and Quineses.

From Abra to (Dipolog) Zamboanga Del Norte, Albay to Zambales. Mindanao, Luzon, the Visayas, From the Aetas. Ifugaos… Subanens, Team UPMASA with UERM, FEU, UST, PGH, UP Manila joined forces to revisit and returned to previously served and needed to assist areas team by team. After the initial big contingency Zamboanga mission led by Drs Lat (UPMASA Pres) Doloricos/Bobilas (mission Coordinators), Quines's (UERM/GM 2014) smaller teams hooked up with MSF (Medicens Sans Frontiers from France, Australia. USA, Philippines), PREDA Foundation, Alternative Medicine Philippines; and had the opportunity to work with Doctors Without Borders, in Tacloban City. Divided into smaller teams, they spread out countryside. Teamed on more meaningful, lasting projects. Observed crisis crossing US team answering cries for help not only for Haiyan but for other places hard to reach and eclipsed on focus by Yolanda.

Utmost gratitude to the World and all people of various creeds and ideologies, more commonalities than differences…
Thank you selfless volunteers, missioners, Surgical/Medical/DTDT specialists. What we do for them, we do for Him!! Thank you for giving the opportunities to serve !!”  - Emilio P. Quines, Jr.,MD and Felicisima David-Quines, MD
