JERSEY CITY, New Jersey -- “Steady light drizzle - no problem! The celebration must go on” said Lito Gajilan, founder of the Philippine-American Friendship Committee, Inc. (PAFCOM). While rain clouds lingered, the 25th annual Philippine-American Friendship Day kicked off as scheduled with chants of MABUHAY from parade participants in colorful costumes.

"Today, we want to show the Philippine culture... I am so proud" said Dr. Zorayda De Leon, PAFCOM 2015 Grand Marshal.

In his remarks before the start of the parade, PAFCOM President Atty. Victor G. Sison proudly emphasized the big contribution of the Filipinos not only to the City of Jersey City but to the State of New Jersey as well and added that the Filipinos will be a force to reckon with.

For thousands of Filipino and Filipino-Americans who joined the festivity last Sunday, June 28, the celebration was a testament to their precious contributions to the city and to their adopted country.

Among the dignitaries who joined the celebration were Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop; Consul General Mario De Leon Jr.; Jersey City Council President Rolando Lavarro, the first Filipino-American elected to the Municipal Council of Jersey City; Hudson County Freeholder Bill O’Dea; Fil-Am elected officials led by Bergenfield, NJ Councilman Atty. Arvin Amatorio (Honorary Grand Marshal), Mahwah, NJ Councilman Jonathan Wong, and West Windsor, NJ Councilman Peter Mendonez Jr.

The Filipino Channel (TFC) stars Sam Milby, Geneva Cruz and Anna Maria Perez De Tagle did spectacular song numbers to the delight of the thousands of spectators.

The theme for this year's celebration was "Stronger every year and here to stay in New Jersey."
