Filipino Community in Pittsburgh Gives Warm Welcome to Ambassador Cuisia and Philippine Investment Roadshow Delegates

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose L. Cuisia Jr. and the delegates to the 4th annual Philippine Investment Roadshow were given a welcome dinner by the Filipino community in Pittsburgh, PA, which was the first leg of the 3 U.S. cities (the others being Dallas and Seattle) hosting this year’s Roadshow, on Monday, 19 October 2015.  Ms Teodora Schipper, President of the Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh Inc , acted as the main host for the evening.


The dinner was held at the Aspara Cafe, a Thai-Cambodian restaurant in Pittsburgh.  Aside from Ambassador Cuisia, the Roadshow delegates consisted of Dr. Bernardo M. Villegas, Head of Delegation and Professor and Director of Research at the University of Asia and the Pacific and a leading Philippine economist; Mr. Ronaldo R. Elepano Jr., First Vice President for Business Development at DM Consunji Inc.; Mr. Engelbert T. Camasura, Partner of ZMG Ward Howell, an international consulting firm; and Mr. Jose Mari P. Mercado, President and CEO of the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP).  Joining the delegates and community members were New York Consul General Mario L. De Leon, Jr., Consul Felipe Carino, Director of the Economic Section, and staff of the Philippine Consulate General. 

Ambassador Cuisia briefed the community members on the purpose and mission of the Investment Roadshow that was held earlier that day in Pittsburgh. He highlighted the economic developments in the Philippines, as well as the need to promote trade and investment opportunities for U.S. companies in the Pittsburgh area. 

Ambassador Cuisia also informed the community on his meeting with Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto who was pushing for stronger economic ties between the City and the Philippines, as well as advocating for more joint civic initiatives with the regional Filipino community in Pittsburgh and throughout the western Allegheny region of Pennsylvania. 

Dr. Villegas, for his part, reported to the community significant ongoing political and economic trends in the Philippines. He emphasized the importance of the Filipino community to be involved in activities geared towards the advancement of their countrymen in the Philippines and abroad.  He likewise encouraged them to engage in business opportunities that would benefit their local communities in the Philippines, citing the example of Ms. Teodora Schipper’s investment in Palawan.     

Together with Ambassador Cuisia, Dr. Villegas thereafter took the time to address several queries from community members on various matters pertaining to the Philippines.   


As the Investment Roadshow was the first business mission of its kind to be held in Pittsburgh, the community members expressed profound appreciation to the delegates for their time and effort in conveying the latest positive developments in the Philippines, and many promised to engage in activities to help foster closer ties between the City of Pittsburgh and their home country. – Vice Consul Khrys Corpuz, PCGNY
