Obama legalizes tax-deductible donations to ‘Yolanda’ victims

MANILA -- United States President Barack Obama signed Wednesday, March 26 a law that would allow American taxpayers to claim deductions for donations they made to support rehabilitation efforts for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda (International Name: Haiyan).

Areté Music Academy Piano Student Wins Award

Areté Music Academy is pleased to announce the recent notable achievement of its piano student Radovan Lumban-Tobing. Radovan was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall on March 16, 2014 as a recipient of the 2013 Tri-State Certificate of Excellence Award from The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. Among all the students from the tri-state area who took The Royal Conservatory Music Development assessment exams in 2013, Radovan received the highest mark for Grade 4 Piano assessment exam. As a result, he was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall on March 16, 2014.

The New Jersey-based University of the Philippines Alumni & Friends Rondalla was one of eleven Filipino string instrumentalists based in the United States and in the Philippines who donated their music towards the production of a CD entitled Pamanang Pinoy. 100% of the CD sales go to relief and rehabilitation programs for Philippine calamity victims.

(SAN FRANCISCO) -Thursday, March 27 has been designated as the Community Call to Action Day urging members of the Filipino community in the United States to call the US State Department (202-647-6575) and urge US Secretary of State John Kerry to recommend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the Philippines to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Dominican Independence Day Celebration in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY -- The Ukrainian Community Center at 90 Fleet Street in Jersey City was the venue of Ray Regalado's 2nd Annual Dominican Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 7 PM. Almost 700 hundred people came to celebrate the occasion which started with the Dominican National Anthem with Ms. Florencia Guzman, on the piano.
