MANILA -- American boxing legend “Sugar” Shane Mosley is in the country for the first time Tuesday to help raise funds for the victims of Typhoon “Yolanda” through the United Boxing Relief Fund.

Mosley will lead a group of boxing icons here which includes former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and Filipino stars Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire Jr.

“We’re going to bring a lot of fighters [in the Philippines]. Tyson, Nonito Donaire and Manny Pacquiao. So we’re going to be out there and bring boxing to Asia,” the retired three division world champion Mosley told Es News Boxing’s Elie Seck Bach in a video interview as he was heading to the terminal for his flight to Manila.

“It’s very important for all of us fighters to be there and help the victims that cannot afford to get this type of support and for us champions to come over there is such a great honor [and] great thing to do for the people,” Mosley said.

The 42-year-old Mosley took Pacquiao to the distance before losing to the fighting congressman via unanimous decision in May 2011.

Mosley, a former lightweight, welterweight and light middleweight world champion, decided to hang up his gloves after absorbing his ninth loss of his celebrated career to Australian boxer Anthony Mundine last November when he was unable to continue midway through the fight due to back spasms.
